- Removable: Occlusal splint with wire and Hawley with splinting arch wire
- Fixed: Intracoronal and extracoronal
- Provisional stabilization: Worn for 6 to 12 months. E.g. Acrylic splints and metal bands
- Permanent splints: Used indefinitely
