Understanding Hormone Synthesis In The Fetoplacental Unit

Question 1. Stages of spermatogenesis.
Answer:

Question 2. Fetoplacental unit.
Answer:

  • The fetus and placenta interacts as functional unit for synthesis of steroid hormones
  • The enzymes which are absent in fetus are present in placenta and those which are absent in fetus are present in fetus
  • Thus fetus and placenta interacts together for synthesis of steroid hormones
  • This functional unit of fetus and placenta is called fetoplacenta unit

Question 3. Define menarche and menopause.
Answer:

  • The commencement of menstrual cycle is called menarche.
  • The permanent cessation of menstrual cycle in old age is called menopause.

Question 4. Immunological tests for pregnancy.
Answer:

  • It is based on double antigen antibody reactions

Procedure:

  • A drop of HCG antiserum is taken on glass slide
  • A drop of urine from suspected mother is added to it and mixed

Results:

  • If the urine contains HCG, neutralization of HCG antiserum occurs
    This doesn’t produces agglutination
  • If agglutination occurs, it means urine doesn’t contains HCG and the mother is not pregnant

Advantages:

  • Accurate and quick method
  • Easy to perform
  • Performed on 5th day of conception
  • Animal are not scarified
