The pharyngeal apparatus consists of the following components:
- Five pharyngeal arches
- Four pharyngeal pouches
- Four pharyngeal clefts
- Four pharyngeal membranes
All these components develop in the lateral wall of the primitive pharynx caudal to the primitive mouth/stomodeum.
