Sperm Anatomy Explained: Head, Neck, Body, And Tail

Question 1. Testosterone.
Answer:

  • It is male sex hormone.
  • It is synthesis by interstitial cells of leydig cells of testis.

Testosterone Functions:

1. On fetus.

  • Sex differentiation
  • Descent of testis

2. Stimulates growth and development of accessory male sex organs.

3. Increases size and strength of bone.

4. Increases BMR.

5. Stimulates erythropoeisis

6. Makes voice deeper and low-pitched

7. Required for spermatogenesis.

Question 2. Spermatogenesis.
Answer:

Spermatogenesis Definition:

  • Representation
  • Duration.

Question 3. Structure of spermatozoan. (or) List four functions of estrogen.
Answer:

Spermatozoan:

  • It is male reproductive cell, developed in the testis.
  • It is 55-65 μm long.

Spermatozoan Parts:

1. Head.

  • Oval shaped.
  • It is formed by condensed nucleus, thin cytoplasm and thin cell membrane.
  • Nucleus is capped by an acrosome containing muco-polysaccharides and acid phosphatise.

2. Neck.

  • Connects head and body.
  • Its anterior end is formed by anterior end knob and posterior end by posterior end knob.

3. Body.

  • It is cylindrical.
  • Consists of central core called axial filament covered by thin cytoplasmic capsule.

4. Tail.

  • Contains axial filament surrounded by a spiral mitochondrial sheath.
  • It provides energy for motility of sperm.
