The brachial artery is a continuation of the axillary artery below the lower border of the teres major muscle.

Brachial Artery runs downward to reach the cubital fossa, where it terminates at the level of the neck of the radius by dividing into radial and ulnar arteries.

Apart from the muscular branches, the named branches of the brachial artery are

  • Profunda brachii artery (largest branch)
  • Nutrient artery to the humerus
  • Superior and inferior ulnar collateral arteries

Brachial Artery Applied Anatomy

  • Blood pressure is recorded by auscultating the pulsations of brachial artery in the cubital fossa medial to tendon of biceps brachii.
  • The brachial artery can be compressed digitally at midarm against the tendon of the coracobrachialis on the medial side of the humerus.
  • The brachial artery may be ruptured in a supracondylar fracture of the humerus.
