Explain the regulation of blood pressure brought about by the baroreceptor mechanism. (or) Baroreceptors.
Answer:

Baroreceptors:

  • They are the receptors that give response to change in blood pressure.
  • They are sensitive to stretch.
  • Also called pressorreceptors.

Situation:

1. In carotid sinus.

2. In aorta in the wall of the arch of aorta.

1. Carotid sinus baroreceptors.

  • Supplied by hering’s nerve, branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve.

2. Aortic baroreceptors.

  • Supplied by aortic branch of vagus nerve.

Mechanism of action:

1. Action of baroreceptors on increase in arterial blood pressure.
