High Blood Pressure Symptoms And Treatment

Question. Write in brief signs, symptoms and treatment of hypertension.

Answer. Hypertension refers toan  increase in the blood pressure.

Symptoms Hypertension.

1. General: Presence of headache, dizziness, palpitation and easy fatigability

2. Symptoms referable to systemic vascular involvement:

  1. Epistaxis
  2. Hematuria
  3. Blurring of vision or sudden blindness
  4. Dyspnea on exertion
  5. Anginal chest pain
  6. Palpitations
  7. Transient ischemic episodes leading to weakness or paralysis
  8. Hypertensive encephalopathy
  9. Tinnitus
  10. Syncope

3. Symptoms related to underlying disease:

  1. Edema and puff face due to acute nephritis
  2. Weight gain, hirsutism, truncal obesity due to Cushing’s syndrome
  3. Weight loss, tremors, palpitation and sweating due to hyperthyroidism or pheochromocytoma
  4. Joint pain, bronchospasm and peripheral vascular disease symptoms due to polyarteritis nodosa.

Signs Hypertension.

  1. Moon’s face, buffalo hump and truncal obesity in Cushing’s syndrome.
  2. Presence of puff face, rough skin, obesity in myxedema
  3. Tremors, tachycardia, exophthalmos, thyroid dermopathy and goiter in hyperthyroidism
  4. Prognathism, clubbed hand, coarse features in acromegaly
  5. Palpable kidney lump in polycystic kidney
  6. Bruit over abdominal aorta.
  7. Undiagnosed fever and recurrent urinary infections in chronic pyelonephritis.

Question. Write the difference between cardiac and non-cardiac chest pains.
