Question 2. Oogenesis.
Answer:
- In females, maturation from primitive germ cell to mature gamete is called oogenesis.
- It begins before birth.
- First, oogonium enlarges to form primary oocyte.
- The primary oocyte undergoes first meiotic division and forms secondary oocyte and first polar body.
- All of its cytoplasm goes to the daughter cell which forms the secondary oocytes.
- The secondary occyte undergoes second meiotic division and form ovum and second polar body.
- All of the cytoplasm is distributed to ovum.
- One primary oocyte forms only one ovum.
