Understanding Testis Anatomy: Coverings, Tubules, And Ampulla

Testis.
Answer:

It is the primary sex organ in males.

Testis Structure:

  • It occurs in pair.
  • It weighs – 10-40 gms.
  • It measures about 5 x 3 cms.
  • Testis contains about 900 seminiferous tubules, which produces sperms.
  • From these tubules, sperms enters vas efferens which form epididymis.
  • It is continued as Vas deferens.
  • The terminal portion of it is called ampulla.

Testis Coverings:

  • Testis is enclosed by.
    1. Tunica vasculosa – innermost covering.
    2. Tunica albuginea – dense middle fibrous capsule.
    3. Tunica vaginalis – outermost closed cleft.

Testis Functions:

1. It helps in production of gametes in the gonads.

2. It synthesis and secretes androgenic hormones.

  • They are.
    • Testosterone – in large quantities
    • Dihydrotestosterone
    • androstenediones
      • These are secreted by the interstitial cells of leydig in testis.

3. Production and storage of viable sperms.
